چکیده

Evolution of the nucleoli has been followed during oogenesis in the Acipenserid fishes, Acipenser ruthenus (the sterlet) and A. guidenstadti (the sturgeon) using light and electron microscopes. In the ovaries of adults, the oogonial nuclei usually have a single nucleolus with an adjacent mass of paranucleolar fibrillar material. The cytoplasm of the oogonia contains two dense bodies peculiar only to gonocytes, one being electron dense and containing RNA and the otherbeing electron-lucent and lacking RNA...

Ultrastructural localization of nucleolar organizers during oogenesis in Xenopus laevis using a silver technique.

Silver staining at the electron microscopic level of the nucleolar organizers was carried out on Xenopus laevis oocytes at various stages of oogenesis. The results indicate that a positive reaction takes place exclusively in the dense fibrillar component of the extrachromosomal nucleoli. This constituent undergoes morphological changes of distribution and architecture, which have been correlate...

Evolution of the nucleoli during oogenesis in Xenopus laevis studied by electron microscopy.

Xenopus laevis tadpoles and toads were killed at several ages. The structure of the nuclei of the germinal cells has been observed by light and electron microscopes. We distinguish 11 successive stages in nucleolar structure: (1) a single, essentially granular nucleolus in the oogonium (10 /tm diameter), (2) a reticulated nucleolus in the leptotene oocyte, (3) fragmentation of this nucleolus in...

Nucleolin from Xenopus laevis: cDNA cloning and expression during development.

Nucleolin is a key nucleolar protein in higher eukaryotic cells and is involved directly in ribosome biogenesis. Using an antiserum raised against hamster nucleolin, the homologous protein was detected in nucleoli of Xenopus laevis hepatocytes as well as in the amplified nucleoli of oocytes. A cDNA encoding Xenopus nucleolin has been isolated and sequenced. The deduced protein sequence reveals ...

Restricted expression and subnuclear localization of the Drosophila gene Dnop5, a member of the Nop/Sik family of the conserved rRNA processing factors

Members of the conserved nop5/sik1 gene family encode components of small nucleolar ribonucleoprotein (snoRNP) complexes, which have an essential function in rRNA-processing. We describe a novel Drosophila member of this family, termed Dnop5. The gene is expressed in nurse cells during oogenesis and transcripts are deposited into the growing oocyte. Maternal transcripts become evenly distribute...

Localized expression of the Drosophila gene Dxl6, a novel member of the serine/arginine rich (SR) family of splicing factors

Members of the highly conserved family of serine/arginine rich (SR) splicing factors play an essential role in the recognition of the exonic splicing enhancers that control the choice of splice sites in primary transcripts. Here, we report the cloning and the expression pattern of Dxl6, a novel Drosophila member of this protein family. Dxl6 is located on the second chromosome in a position next...
